HCLU and Network News

New Northern LKS Website: We now have a Northern LKS website. This will be the home of the new Northern Lights newsletter and a place for all of the northern networks to store their papers including minutes from meetings. Work is currently taking place to populate the site. In the next few weeks a new events calander will be launched and there will be changes to email lists which we will let you know about when they happen. In the meantime have a look at the new blog which includes a couple of articles from Amy Clancy documenting her experiences as a graduate trainee with Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust and Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust

Editorial Board for Northern Lights – volunteers wanted! Northern Lights is the new LKS North newsletter representing the whole of the north, and will appear in both blog format on the LKS North website, and in quarterly newsletter form. We are looking to expand the Editorial board with some new volunteers, most particularly from Yorkshire & Humber, and the North East as they are currently under represented on the Editorial Board

Presentations from the LKS managers meeting are on the blog

Next Bulletin: The next bulletin will be published on the 1 April 2019

Knowledge for Healthcare News

Invitation to publish your innovations and good practice work: You may have realised that there has been no call for Sally Hernando Innovation Award applications during 2019. The reason for this is HEE Library Leads are keen to focus on the dissemination, spread, and uptake of innovations and good practice into the wider profession.

To this end we have worked in partnership with the Library and Information Research Group (LIRG) to agree a themed issue in the Library and Information Research Journal on innovation and good practice from healthcare libraries serving the NHS.

In order to help build skills and confidence around writing for publication, and thereby to improve the likelihood of papers being accepted, HEE has commissioned LIRG to provide two webinars to support NHS Library and Knowledge staff interested in contributing to this issue. The session will be delivered by experienced LIRG staff and will focus to building confidence and developing skills through peer review.

If you have an example of good practice or innovation which you would like to publish in this themed issues we would be keen to hear from you.

You are invited to complete an expressions of interest form and return by Friday 12th April 2019. Authors whose entries are accepted for the next step of the process will be expected to attend both of the two writing for publication webinars. These will be held 23rd May 2019 and
11th July 2019. We expect the deadline for the final submission of articles to be around the end of August 2019. We encourage you to consider taking this first step to getting your work published.

National Discovery Service - User Research: As you know we are working towards providing a national discovery system, the aim being a single gateway for all the resources bought nationally and locally across the NHS in England. We are now at the stage of working with an expert independent user experience organisation, Lagom, so that users and potential users' information seeking needs are fully understood ensuring that the system is developed to do what they need it to. They need some volunteers to take part in this research and we are therefore writing to ask for your help in identifying some staff and/or students in your Trusts. This would involve either them participating in a telephone interview or attending a workshop. Please find attached a template e-mail to send out to your library users.

Local eResources and Systems Audit 2019: Next week you will receive a new local eResources and systems audit return for the period 1 January - 31 December 2018. We’ll be asking for data on the cost and usage of the e-resources and systems you purchased last year. We really appreciate your assistance with this; hopefully we are only asking for information that as service managers you would be collecting and reviewing anyway. We know that in some cases suppliers will have told you that cost information is commercially confidential, and will treat it accordingly.
